Minnieapolus and Saint Paul

Minnieapolus and Saint Paul, the “TWIN CITIES”, as quoted by the late great Mark Twain, sit adjacent to each other across the Mississippi River in the state of Minnesota.

Minnieapolus is the County Seat of Hennipen County, which houses both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. Saint Paul is the Capital City of Minnesota.

Together these cities have become a major Metropolis.

History of the two cities stem back to the 17th century when French explorer Father Louis Hennepin founded the area and named it after his favorite saint, St. Anthony; hence Hennepin County, named in his honor, and on the other side of the Mississippi River fur traders, explorer’s, and missionaries were showing up at Fort Snelling for the protection that they offered.

In the 1800’s Minnieapolus was know for it’s industry of lumbar and flour mills situated along the banks of the Mississippi River at St. Anthony Falls. The water from the river powered the mills that lined the rivers banks. Many imigrants moved into the area and work was booming.

The ever popular Pillsbury Company was founded in 1869 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and in the downtown area you will see the figures of the Pillsbury Dough Boy, as well as The Jolly Green Giant which is also owned by Pillsbury.

Saint Paul, Minnesota is noted for its neighborhoods.

Saint Paul has been named the “Fifteen small towns with one mayor”. These fifteen neighborhoods extend from the Northwest to the Southeast of Saint Paul, and houses from the elite upper class drizzling down thru the blue collar to the poverty stricken neighborhoods.

Saint Paul is also the home of the Minnesota State Fair.

The largest state fair in the United States. Like its Twin city neighbor Minnieapolus, Saint Paul has skyways throughout the city in the downtown area for the convenience and comfort of its downtown residents and visitors, and has its very own ice hockey team the “Minnesota Wild”
